There have been a few items that have really made life easier though, and that I couldn't have done without, so I thought would be helpful to share.
1. Next to me crib - this has to be my favourite purchase. I absolutely love having my son so close to me and have loved being able to just turn over and pick him up rather than getting out of bed through the night. That might not seem like a hard task but with only a few hours sleep at 2am those little steps can sometimes feel like a lot more. Also great for breastfeeding mums!
2. Sleepyhead - this is like a mattress that goes inside the crib which is supposed to help your baby feel more secure and less likely to startle themselves. It works a treat. The dreaded night I washed the cover and realised at bedtime it was still soaking wet in the machine, let's just say was a terrible night. Otis was kicking and darting all over the place and only settled once he was back in the Sleepyhead.
Sleepyheads are quite pricey, but so worth it. Luckily my sister lent me hers, but I would definitely recommend investing in one of these!

3. Baby bath - Kicking tiny babies are very slippery and it's harder than it looks to try and wash a newborn and hold them at the same time. The one I have is called 'Angelcare soft touch bath support' which I would recommend. Although nothing beats a lovely bath with him, he really loves bath time so I try and have them with him as much as I can.

4. Muslins and lots of them! Sometimes 4 in one room just isn't enough. They're great for everything. Wiping/mopping sick, protecting yourself and your furniture from sick and much more. You really can't go wrong with these.
5. Car seat adapters for your pram. I couldn't recommend these enough. There's nothing better than lifting your peaceful sleeping baby from the car onto the pram and keeping them asleep. It's hassle and stress free and has made life much easier for us.
Here's Otis and I using the car seat adaptors on the pram to go for lunch.
