4 Post-baby body changes I didn't expect

Like many women, I've always been quite body conscious and there were four major changes to my post-baby body that I really wasn't expecting!

1. Sagging and wobbling

I always heard people say it was so much harder to lose weight and tone up after having a baby, but it always just went over my head. Now I'm a mum I definitely understand what everyone was talking about. After birth those 'problem' areas seem to be a little bit more of a problem, they're a little bit more saggy and a lot more wobbly.

2. Piles

I was always kind of horrified by the word 'piles', so I couldn't believe it when I actually had to openly admit to my doctor that I had them myself and let her prod around to confirm the dreaded diagnosis. I was forced to the doctors by my mum who reassured me it was so normal after birth and that my doctor wouldn't be disgusted. I never ever knew how common it was after birth! I urge you to go to the doctors if you have any symptoms, instead of like me, leaving it until I was drawn to tears every time I went to the toilet. Don't be embarrassed ladies!

3. Stretch marks

I was so ashamed of my stretch marks at first. I was lucky not to get very many, but the ones I did get, people would be able to see from miles. I've now learnt to love my mummy lines. They strangely make me feel more womanly. That's something I never thought I'd hear myself say! I look at them and they remind me what an amazing journey my body went through to create the most precious thing in my life.

4. Hair loss

I remember my mum telling me not to be alarmed if I notice more hair than normal coming out after birth. Five months down the line I thought I was lucky enough to escape it. I was wrong. Seven months later and it's started. I'm told it's to do with your hormones, but my hair is getting thinner and thinner. My son pulls enough out on a daily basis anyway so I'm really ready for it to stop now!

It's comforting to know that I'm not alone in going through these changes. I urge other mums not to feel ashamed, and to seek help if you need it!
