Bourn Sisters
posted in Mum StoriesI think my partner would have been happy to wait until the birth to find out the sex, but he didn’t really mind either way. I personally couldn’t wait to find out what I was having. I really felt finding out my baby's gender helped me to bond with her.
I was also desperate to prepare for my newborn and I found knowing the sex really helped with this. I didn't want to buy gender-neutral clothes, and I wanted to create a gender-specific nursery. I also wanted to decide on a name before the baby arrived!
I went for a private scan at 16 weeks to find out the baby's sex. This was also because my partner was away with work and would miss out on our 20-week scan and we wanted to find out together. Having a gender scan can be quite tedious because the baby is often not in the correct position. It took me around half an hour of jumping around and drinking cold drinks to make my baby move so that we were able to get a clear picture.
With my second child I will definitely be eager to find out the sex again. I'll want to know if I can re-use some of my daughter’s pretty dresses that I've had stashed away, or whether I need to buy new things for a baby boy.
